Genius Times

"These are the times in which a genius would wish to live. It is not in the still calm of life, or the repose of a pacific station, that great characters are formed. The habits of a vigorous mind are formed in contending with difficulties. Great necessities call out great virtues. When a mind is raised, and animated by scenes that engage the heart, then those qualities which would otherwise lay dormant, wake into life and form the character of the hero and the statesman."
Abigail Adams

I believe we live in times when minds are "animated by scenes that engage the heart"...if considered the right way. Too often we are tempted to see ourselves as victims of difficulties instead of grabbing them up as opportunities as Abigail would.

There is another great comfort in times that we need it. If we can "remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men" then we can be assured that he will deal that way with us now (Moroni 10:3). A merciful God gets us through hardships when we turn to Him for help. This has been and continues to be my experience. My job is not exactly secure at the moment, but I trust that I will be helped through whatever comes...and that brings me great peace.
